Haberdashers’ Monmouth School

Haberdashers’ Monmouth School is a co-educational day and boarding school that welcomes children from across the globe into its community. Situated in the heart of the Wye Valley, they proudly offer a prestigious sports scholarship, specifically tailored for exceptionally talented pupils in Wales and internationally. The school had a vision to create a training hub that supported all students, from participation to performance. They tasked us with designing and installing an enhanced strength and conditioning facility that would give their students access to top-tier equipment.

Collaboration was key to the successful delivery of the performance centre. Throughout the process, we worked closely with Richie Rees, the Director of Sport and Rugby at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School. He said, “Absolute Performance understands the rigours of the equipment and the vision we had as a school”. Partnering with Jamie Potter, from architects Levitt Bernstein, we made sure every decision was aligned with their creative vision for the stunning aesthetic of the space.

We transformed a set of prep school classrooms that were unused and in need of a purpose fit for sports scholars. Our team designed and installed a performance room packed with strength and conditioning equipment, and a functional zone was kitted out with top-tier cardio and training machines to support a variety of workout goals. With industry-leading equipment, the spaces provide a vast offering, from improving technique and speed to building power and endurance.

We made sure this build was fit for the next generation of athletes, complete with top-performing equipment, including IWF-accredited Werksan custom-branded bumper plates and 4 custom-branded Wattbike Air-Pro’s.

Wales and British and Irish Lions legend, Leigh Halfpenny, recently visited the facility and said, “The Eddie Butler Performance Centre is a world-class facility. The quality of the space and equipment rivals and in many areas surpasses those of professional sporting organisations. It’s clear a great deal of thought has gone into the design, meeting the needs of everyone from school students to community users and elite athletes alike. This facility offers something truly exceptional for everyone.”

Housing cutting-edge training facilities with fully qualified strength and conditioning coaches, the centre is designed for sports scholars and top performers. Harry Sheers, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Haberdashers’ Monmouth School says, “The Eddie Butler Centre is a massive part of improving the provision of the school. It’s on a much bigger scale, now we have an opportunity [for the students] that is very attractive.”
