Swansea Bay Sports Park is multi-sport facility which is jointly governed by Swansea University, Swansea Council, Sport Swansea and Wales National Pool Swansea. It brings together athletes from a variety of sports and disciplines, from beginners to elite, who use the running track, competition size swimming pool, all-weather pitches, indoor spaces and gym facilities.
We were initially approached to provide a highly durable gym flooring solution as the plans came together to extend the existing gym facilities. The larger gym would allow more athletes, in particular student athletes, to take advantage of expanded and improved strength and conditioning facilities offered by Swansea Bay Sports Park.
Drawing upon our previous experience of working directly with Swansea University we provided advice and guidance to John Weaver Construction, the main contractors, who had been tasked with managing the construction project. In collaboration with both John Weaver and the University we designed, supplied and installed the facility from floor to ceiling, specifying a range of high performance equipment in the process.
By choosing 250 square metres of durable AP 40mm heavyweight flooring we ensured maximum protection for the subfloor and noise reduction from impact sound. The bespoke branded turf sled tracks and wooden platforms add additional durability to performance areas. Werksan racks, half racks, lifting bars and Swansea University branded plates are accompanied by a range of adjustable branded benches, dumbbells, slam balls, jerk blocks and more, to create a comprehensive S&C facility.
Expanding the gym provision at this campus has been an ambition of ours for some time and this provision has been very well received by all our users. The equipment is of a high standard, and the customisable and brandable options have helped to create a flexible and inspiring training space which has increased customer satisfaction and notably driven membership sales.
