A Customised College Gym Space
St George’s College Weybridge is a prestigious school located in Surrey, UK that offers a comprehensive educational experience to its students. The college is well-known for its excellent sports facilities that cater to a wide range of sporting disciplines. Recently, the school decided to upgrade its gym facilities to provide a world-class strength and conditioning centre for its students, faculty and staff. The project was commissioned as part of the St George’s College Weybridge 150th year celebrations.
The school has produced elite sportspeople in a variety of sports including cricket, hockey and rugby union to name a few. The new gym will help the college continue its proud tradition of providing elite facilities to students of all sporting capabilities and further cement physical activity as an integral part of a student’s development.
Design to Installation – A Complete Service
The design process began with a consultation with the school’s management team to understand their requirements followed by a series of 3D models and renders to help visualise the new space. The team wanted a facility that would cater to the needs of students who’s sporting development would benefit from strength and conditioning training. It was important to the college leadership team that the college brand shone through and delivered a sense of place and pride. It was crucial to the college that the gym delivered elite standard facilities and a safe and well organised environment for students of varying abilities to use.
To meet these requirements, we created a customised gym space that featured multiple flooring solutions including grey-fleck high-impact heavyweight flooring suitable for drop areas and custom-branded turf sled tracks. Legend Pro Series Half Racks and Power Racks, Legend benches, leg presses and storage racks were included along with a 4-Bay Functional Rig. Each piece was custom coloured in the college’s burgundy and grey colour scheme.
We also ensured that the gym was equipped with an array of top-tier cardio equipment including curve treadmills, Concept 2 Rowers and SkiErgs, and Watt Bikes. Olympic bars and custom-branded plates from Werksan, DC Blocks weightlifting blocks and a wide range of conditioning kit and accessories, such as wall balls, technique bars and plates and bespoke branded plyo box sets were also specified.
It is always important to consider the flow and movement around the equipment, this project was no different as the requirement large groups use became apparent. Groups would meed to make use of the facilities comfortably and storage solutions would play a vital role in keeping the floors clear of clutter whilst also protecting the equipment.
The installation process brought the project to life. Our engineers installed everything from the ground up, providing a complete project solution. Training and guidance for each piece of kit was provided along with an aftercare service to ensure the facility remains as good as the day it was commissioned and provides a lasting legacy for future generations to enjoy.
