Building the foundations for success
It's been a very strange year, not just for sport but for the world. Over the weekend we, like the rest of the world, would've been celebrating what we are sure would've been another successful Olympics.
The Olympics brings the world together to celebrate fantastic achievements, friendships and sportsmanship, but sadly Covid-19 got in the way this year.
The Tokyo Olympics had been marked in our calendar for some time, as we renewed our successful relationship with the BOA and Team GB after delivering their Strength and Conditioning facilities for the Rio Olympics.
We have worked with many fantastic sporting organisations as they prepare for their Premierships, Championships, World Cups and more but there is something special about working with a team who are competing in the largest global sporting competition, seen by billions of people worldwide. It becomes more than just a project, but a project of pride and passion to supply the very best equipment to help them achieve their goals and bring home the gold.
Our team were looking forward to again hitting the ground running and building the world-class training facilities that would help the BOA and Team GB bring home the gold from Tokyo and although it wasn’t to be this summer, we are at the starting blocks for next year – raring to go.
So in the meantime, here’s a throwback to our time in Rio
The British Olympic Association wanted to make the 2016 training camps the biggest and best-equipped ever to have been used by a British Olympic team. Having worked closely with the BOA before, we were brought in to handle the gym design, strength equipment and gym installation of the team’s strength and conditioning camps in Brazil.
Our dedicated gym installation team spent 3 and a half weeks out in Rio where they spent a week installing the elite strength equipment from Legend Fitness.
Strength Equipment – Premium-quality strength equipment ranging from dumbbells and resistance bands to squat stations and benches
Cardio – Rowing machines and Concept2 standing ski ergs
Extras – Saunas and ice baths
Team colours – Racks, machines and benches in GB’s red and blue
Branding – Team GB branded equipment including lifting platforms, plyo boxes and training plates made by IWF-accredited Werksan
The training camps were a huge success and, as intended, helped unite athletes from all across the sporting spectrum.
Team GB athletes were able to train with state-of-the-art strength equipment that mimicked the high standard and quality they were used to back in the UK, and thus create a positive impact on their performance.James Moore , Deputy Chef de Mission Performance Services, British Olympic Association
