Create a new elite strength and conditioning gym
As part of Wakefield College’s plan to be recognised nationally for its sporting performance and achievement, a new elite strength and conditioning facility was needed primarily for the Athlete Development Programme which is available to all athlete scholars aged between 16-19 years, across the range of sports at the College.
The new gym is also being used by the College’s degree programs for some of their modules, the strength and conditioning courses, and the weightlifting courses.
Wakefield College were impressed with our work at England Rugby’s National Fitness Centre and Sheffield Hallam University. Using our vast experience within the education sector and professional sports clubs, Absolute Performance was chosen to install the new elite training gym, within budget and on time for the start of the new 2014/2015 academic year.
A bespoke training space with International Weightlifting Federation accredited equipment
The solution was to design a training facility to help Wakefield College develop its status as a centre of sporting excellence.
This new strength and conditioning gym has transformed the training experience for all the college students. They now have a facility with IWF accredited Werksan equipment including training bars, plates and three half racks - all bespoke for Wakefield College.
There is a second adjoining multi-function training room which can be used for both weightlifting and general strength and conditioning work.
Each of the bespoke weightlifting platforms has a Werksan half rack, two Werksan bars and a full set of Werksan plates. Each station has a suspension trainer for a complete training range. There is a short astroturfed area with a double-ended pushing sled and battles ropes, giving great variability for training options.
The flooring platforms are marked out to zone the floor space, which is fitted with AP Heavyweight flooring making it robust and versatile.
Again, the reputation of Werksan speaks for itself.
Wakefield College is now able to attract top-flight students to its sports courses knowing it has the best training facility for students. The facility can also be used to attract developing talented sports people in the region, both within the College and externally. The facility now also has a dual purpose as an education facility where S&C coaches can learn and develop their range of skills and expertise.
The Absolute Performance team with their knowledge and advice has helped create a training facility, which inspires and will help our students achieve their athletic potential.
We are delighted with this training facility. This gym will help the College become synonymous with sporting excellence.
