Create a unique subterranean home gym.
When our client commissioned a full redevelopment of his Notting Hill period town house, he needed our specialist advice on how to make the ultimate purpose-built subterranean gym.
The gym was to be at the bottom of the garden, housed in what was effectively a concrete box. The brief was to create a design based on a spit and sawdust gym, without the spit and sawdust, whilst also ensuring it was in keeping with the period property.
Inspired design, premium materials, custom built equipment and a few strokes of genius
Inspiration came from the first Gold's Gym in California which was built in a shuttered concrete box. It was essential that only premium quality materials were used to achieve the utilitarian design, maximising the use of simple, natural materials with polished concrete floors and exposed brick.
The equipment was all custom designed to make the best possible use of space, and colour matched to ensure each piece of kit fitted perfectly within the surroundings. The tailor made upholstery along with the vintage leather punch bags and boxing gloves, all added to the detail to make the space unique and personal to our client.
The project wasn’t without its challenges. As well as space being an issue, we had to consider access, which being underground was tricky to say the least! The solution was to modify and manufacture the equipment in such a way as to allow easy access to the building and subsequent construction on site.
Charlie had this to say:
I trusted Matt and the team at Absolute Performance to create a stunning home gym that would be unique and personal to me. I was not disappointed! The end result has exceeded all expectations, and I can’t congratulate AP enough for what they have achieved. Since then they’ve also fitted out my second home gym in Ibiza.
